Dial-up setup using Linux
This is an example setup run under Debian 3.0(Woody), each distribution will be slightly different in script name and setup, but this should provide you with sufficient information to set up a dialup connection under any distribution. This setup assumes that you have root priveledges.
Step 1.
From any console session type pppconfig or the script name of the PPP configurator for your distribution.
Step 2.
Choose Create a Connection then tab down to OK and hit enter.
Step 3.
Enter Storm Internet Services as the Provider Name then tab down to OK then hit enter.
Step 4.
Choose Static as the type of NameServers then tab down to OK and hit enter.
Step 5.
Enter 192.168.3.3 as the Primary NameServer then tab down to OK and hit enter.
Step 6.
Enter 192.168.2.2 as the Secondary NameServer then tab down to OK and hit enter.
Step 7.
Choose PAP(Peer Authentication Protocol) then tab down to OK and hit enter.
Step 8.
The script will now be asking for your username. If you are a Storm client dialing the local Ottawa number or if you are a Superaje client dialing the local Perth/Brockville number, your username will be everything before the @ sign in your email address(Ex: If your email address was StormUser@storm.ca, your username would be StormUser). All others must use the complete email address as your username(Ex: If your email address was StormUser@storm.ca, use the full email address as your username)
Step 9.
The script will now be asking for your password, enter it and hit OK
Step 10.
The script will now be asking the maximum speed of your modem, if you are not sure hit OK.
Step 11.
The script will now be asking what type of phone line you have(most are Tone Dial), choose this and hit OK
Step 12.
Enter the phone number that is local for you; being either Brockville(613-498-0674) or Ottawa(613-567-4068). Hit OK
Step 13.
Choose Yes to Auto Detect your Modem's Port, or No if you want to select it manually. Then hit OK
Step 14.
If the script located a modem it will have selected it, if not you will have to select it manually. Then hit OK
Step 15.
The script has now completed, choose Finished and exit the script
