While these all new AIA rifles bear a striking resemblance to the battle-proven Lee Enfield .303 rifles which served the Commonwealth for over half a century, the M10 bolt action rifles are an entirely new concept often described as 'how the legendary SMLE (short magazine Lee Enfield) would have evolved had it remained our front-line service rifle to this day.'
In breathing new life into an enduring classic, Australian International Arms sought to surpass the original by combining all the best features of various SMLE variants together with the latest precision CNC machining and the most up-to-date modern engineering - all without sacrificing the old world attention to detail, use of exotic wood, and careful hand finishing which make quality rifles from yesteryear such treasured heirlooms. From the shooter's perspective the 'short Lee's' looks, lightning quick action, 'bomb proof' safety, and peerless handling has been retained with tasteful updates such as a drilled and tapped receiver for use with a steel weaver rail, a more practical detachable box magazine with mag release forward of the trigger guard, and many other enhancements.
Central to the new rifle's design is its heavily reinforced forged ordnance steel receiver, recessed, thickened, and fully enclosed bolt head, and 'Canadian Long Branch' type strengthened locking lugs with anti-chip bevel, enhancements which result in an action that is one and a half times as strong as the original Lee Enfield's. Savage-type Brewer locking collars for adjustable headspacing, free-floated magna fluxed chrome-lined barrels, precise (1.630") headspacing for match grade accuracy, and hand finished oil rubbed teak stocks come standard on all M10 rifles - features other manufacturers would call 'optional extras' if they offer them at all!
