TO MY
1955 Chevrolet Pickup
HOME PAGE

I recently sold my 1962 Chevy II and 1940 Plymouth Coupe to buy this 1955-second series step side pickup. The truck was originally owned by the Ottawa Fire Department and driven by "Chief Larkin" from 1955 until 1971. The truck was sold in 1971 to a friend of mine with only 41,000 miles on it. In the spring of 2007 I purchased it from him with only 43,000 miles on it. Like many cars and trucks bought for show and play it was not driven a lot, the truck was left sitting which caused the floor to rust out. The first thing we did was to remove the cab and box, sandblasted the frame and replaced the floor with a "one piece" unit. We also did various other repairs as needed to make it a good solid driver. It was in serious need of some chrome, we installed new front and rear bumpers, grill, mirrors and few other pieces. The engine we want to keep as original looking as possible. The truck originally came with a 235 cu. in. engine but in 1971 it suffered a scored cylinder and was replaced with a 261 cu. in. engine from a 1962 Pontiac. We plan on keeping the truck as stock looking as possible, keeping the original suspension, steering and three-speed column shift.
