PVC Edrum Rack
PVC seems to be the material of choice for edrum-on-the-cheap racks. Its inexpensive and easy to work with but not terribly rigid. Mine was made from 1 1/2" PVC pipe and a couple of tees. I used muffler clamps to hold the crossbar in place so I could adjust the height. Its kind of flimsy but a bit of cross bracing should help a lot.

One pad is missing in the picture above. I may add some homemade e-cymbals at some point, and I have a Remo practice pad that can easily be modified for edrum usage.
This picture shows some detail of the pad mounts. The gray plastic is 3/4" I.D. plastic conduit. It was cut out to fit over the 1 1/2" PVC and drilled to accept a 1 3/4" wide U bolt. The yellow stuff on the U bolt is latex rubber tube, and if you look carefully you can see a piece of mouse pad between the conduit and the black PVC pipe. Why ? To mechanically isolate the pads from one another so a hard hit on one does not get picked up on the others. Thats also why there is a piece of mouse pad under the trigger pad. I had a real problem with cross triggering until I put these isolators in.

Underside of the pad mount. A piece of 3/16" plywood is screwed to the conduit, there is a layer of mouse pad on top of that for vibration damping, and the trigger pad sits on top of that. The left one is held to the conduit with clamps to give a tilt adjustment. The rubber mounting has a bit of "give" but it stays in place because the latex rubber really grips the PVC crossbar. Finger tightening the U bolt nuts will keep everything in place.
